Clinical Study Details
Osteoporosis is a ‘silent’ condition in which a loss of bone density increases the risk of serious fractures.
Here at AusTrials we are conducting an observational study in women over the age of 50 who have experienced a fracture due to their osteoporosis in the last 12 months, in comparison to women over the age of 50 who have not recently experienced a fracture.
The study aims to investigate the effects of osteoporotic fractures on productivity (in terms of decreased paid or unpaid work) and physical functioning during activities of daily living.
This study consists of a review of medical history and completion of a survey. Eligible participants will be compensated $50 for their time and effort.
The study is being conducted at three AusTrials clinics across Brisbane:
- Taringa
- Victoria Point
- Wellers Hill (Tarragindi)

Clinical Study Details
Meningococcal disease is rare, but if contracted, it can progress suddenly. The disease can cause devastating lifelong impairments and can be fatal.
Currently, there are two available vaccines for Meningococcal disease. One vaccine protects against the A, C, W and Y strains and the other vaccine protects against the B strains of the disease. AusTrials is conducting a research study to test a new investigational vaccine that combines the 5 main strains of the disease into the one vaccine (ABCWY).
The study will involve 6 clinic visits over an 18-month period. Participants will be asked to give blood to assess how the body reacts to the vaccine, answer questions about participant health and complete an electronic diary to collect health information after vaccination. In total, participants will receive 4 injections (vaccines).
You may be eligible to take part if:
- You are healthy and between 10 and 25 years old
- You have never had a vaccine against any of the 5 Meningococcal strains (A, B, C, W or Y). However, you can still join the study if you received a Meningococcal C strain vaccine at or before 24 months of age.
The study is being conducted at the following locations:
- Taringa, QLD
- Wellers Hill, QLD
Qualified participants will receive:
- Vaccinations and visits at no cost
- Compensation for time and travel involved in the study

Clinical Study Details
Do you have pain from osteoarthritis of the knee?
Osteoarthritis is a common degenerative joint disorder. Treatment for OA primarily involves a combination of exercise and lifestyle modification, drug treatment, supplementation with glucosamine or chondroitin sulphate, and surgical joint replacement. Among drug treatments, corticosteroids are routinely given by an injection into the joint for the treatment of chronic knee joint diseases to relieve pain, reduce inflammation, and improve mobility.
A limitation of such joint injection with corticosteroids is the modest duration of treatment effect, which often lasts for only 2 to 4 weeks. Repeat injections are possible in the same joint, but there are limited data on the safety and duration of the effectiveness of this procedure.
AusTrials is conducting a clinical trial testing a new longer acting joint injection for osteoarthritis of the knee in patients who are still experiencing pain. X-rays will be performed to see to assess the severity of any joint damage. The study is assessing if the new corticosteroid injection provides both short-term and sustained pain and symptom relief for up to 6 months in patients with knee OA pain.
You may be able to take part in the study if you:
- Are 40 years of age or older, male or female
- Have been diagnosed with knee osteoarthritis
- Have continued to experience pain for at least 6 months
- Have a normal to moderately high weight (Body Mass Index less than 40)
- Are not using regular non-steroidal analgesic (eg ibuprofen) or some opioid medications.
Please contact AusTrials on 07 3278 5255 for further information, or fill out the form below and we will get back to you.

Clinical Study Details
Now enrolling: a clinical study testing flu vaccine in children 6 months to less than 9 years of age
Influenza is a highly infectious disease that occurs in epidemics throughout the winter months and can be severe in young children. The flu is characterised by the abrupt onset of respiratory and systemic symptoms, such as fever, myalgia, headache, severe malaise, non-productive cough, sore throat, and a runny nose.
Flu vaccines are designed to prevent the flu and may help keep babies and young children healthy during flu season. Vaccination is the most effective method to avoid contracting the flu.
This study will provide influenza vaccination to children from 6 months to less than 9 years of age who are otherwise healthy, have not had the influenza vaccine in the past 6 months and haven’t had a severe allergic reaction in the past when vaccinated.
The study is being conducted at these centres:
-
North Ipswich, QLD
-
Taringa, QLD
-
Wellers Hill, QLD
-
Victoria Point, QLD
Qualified participants and their parents will receive:
-
Influenza immunisation with this season’s quadrivalent vaccine
-
Reimbursement for time and travel
All study procedures are performed at NO COST.
Please contact AusTrials on 07 3278 5255 for further information, or fill out the form below and we will get back to you.
