AusTrials is recognised internationally for the timely recruitment of subjects and the prompt delivery and highest standards in clinical research.

Dedicated Study Sites – Phase II-III Trials

Dedicated AusTrials study sites are exclusively for clinical trials activities. All study sites are located close to public transportation and provide the following facilities:

  • Private monitoring rooms with IT access (at least two per site)
  • Purpose built restricted-access drug storage with monitored temperature controls, 24 hour air-conditioning, and back to base alarms.
  • Separate flow for study participants, monitors, and staff.
  • Meeting rooms.
  • Secure file storage.

Phase IV GP Trials Sites

AusTrials operates Phase IV Trials sites through Primary Health Care medical centres. The medical centres currently participating in Phase IV Trials integrate the practices of up to 25 full time General Practitioners, and typically include on-site:

  • Treatment & Procedure Rooms
  • Pathology
  • Radiology (including X-ray, ultrasound & CT)
  • Pharmacy
  • Physiotherapy
  • Dental
  • Specialists
  • Allied health

Clinical trial coordinators are engaged on a permanent basis at GP Trials sites.

Laboratory Services

AusTrials offers laboratory service for all trials (Phase II-IV) through Dorevitch Pathology. Established in 1994, the Clinical Trials Division of Dorevitch Pathology has participated in over 750 trials, and services local and international pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies. The main laboratory operates 24 hours per day, 7 days per week for sample receipt and processing.

Dorevitch Pathology operates a dedicated clinical trials laboratory within a purpose build pathology laboratory in Victoria. Sample shipments are batched and supported by electronic inventory. Dorevitch Pathology offers rapid turnaround of analytical results and customised reporting. Long and short-term sample storage is available at -20o C and -80o C.

AusTrials is an integrated part of Primary Health Care’s network of health services, with access to a range of specialists and a potential active pool of 5 million patients. AusTrials continues to build research synergies across the Primary network. Primary’s health services include:
